The themes of dining and kitchenware are winning major attention from designers these days. No wonder, dining and gathering, preparing food is a big aspect of our lives. It’s only fitting that we want to surround us with the most beautiful tableware while cooking or dining at home with friends and family. The international Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt, Germany reserved a special place and focus this year to trends for dining and kitchen design, presenting themes such as: Table Contemporary Design, Table Top Trade, Table Prestige, Houseware & Storage – the topics where spread among the spacious Halls of the Messe Ambiente trade show space in Frankfurt, Germany.
„I hope you have comfortable shoes, there is so much to see today“ – told me Cindy van Turnhout, as we spoke inside the warm inviting home atmosphere of the Boska Holland presentation booth. Surrounded by large table full of cheese plates and a serving counter where one can try out the best of cheeses and watch life the art of cheese serving tools, eating cheese felt like a design event. Boska is a family business who has been revolutionising the joy of enjoying and serving cheese for generations. They won several design prises and show the world that serving and enjoying cheese can be beautiful, modern and cool.
Die Themen rund ums Küchendekor erfahren viel Aufmerksamkeit im Designuniversum. Kein Wunder, denn die Vorbereitung von Mahlzeiten und das Zusammensein am Tisch gehören zu den schönsten Einfachheiten des Lebens. Und so ist es auch kein Wunder, das die Themen Kochen, Essen und Trinken viel Platz auf der Ambiente 2017 in Frankfurt eingenommen haben.
„Ich hoffe, dass Sie flache bequeme Schuhe heute anhaben, denn es gibt hier viel zu laufen und zusehen“ – sagte mir Cindy van Turnhout als wir in einer einladenden warmen Atmosphäre auf dem Boska Holland Messestand sprachen. Boska’s Messestand erinnerte mich an etwas zwischen einem Gourmet-Deli und einen Stammtisch mit Freunden. In einer entspannten willkommenen Atmosphäre konnte man Käse probieren und zusehen, mit welchen Accessoires der Käsegenuss am schönsten ist. Das Familiengefühl kam ganz natürlich rüber, da Boska über Generationen die Kultur des Käsegenusses revolutioniert hat. Dank diesen niederländischen Familienunternehmens kann Käse cool und sogar als Designerlebnis wahrgenommen werden.
Inspired by this welcoming warmth, I continued my journey straight to the Hall 3 where life cooking, food tasting and video installations impress their visitors.
Mit einem schönem Gefühl ging ich weiter zur Halle 3 wo eine spektakuläre „Live-Cooking“ Show inklusive Videoinstallationen und gastronomischer Verkostungen das Beste vom Design für Gastronomie und Küche präsentierte.
As I walk through this spectacular show, my eyes notice a repetition of certain elements and so the favourites in design trends for the coming season present themselves clearly. Here is the revue:
Während ich durch diesen spektakulären Show ging, erkannte ich ein paar wiederholende Muster und Elemente. Hier sind die kommende Favoriten unter den kommenden Trends:
MUTED MATT SURFACES
Kitchen appliances, cutlery and tableware, all are covered in a smooth matt surface. All colours are muted, warm and have a matt nuance to them. This is a trend I cannot deny and must say I love. The matt finish gives a subtle, gentle feeling, pleasant for the eyes and feels so soft to hold in the hands. This optic and haptic gives the everyday objects such a reserved feeling of home, warmth, cosiness – perfect qualities for kitchen accessories.
MATTE OBERFLÄCHEN
Küchengeräte, Besteck und Geschirr, alle sind mit einer glatten matten Oberfläche bedeckt. Alle Farben sind gedämpft, warm und haben eine matte Nuance. Dies ist ein Trend, den ich nicht leugnen kann und ich muss sagen, es ist ein Trend den ich sehr mag. Das matte Finish gibt ein subtiles, sanftes Gefühl, angenehm für die Augen und fühlt sich so weich in den Händen an. Diese Optik und Haptik verleiht den alltäglichen Gegenständen eine so zurückhaltende Wärme und Behaglichkeit – eine einfach perfekte Qualität für Küchenzubehör.
NEW METALLIC PALETTE
Copper, silver and gold where the basic metallic nuances a major trend till now. Ambiente 2017 pleasantly surprises with cutlery and cooking gear in an extended shade metallic palette. This trend gives me a feeling of as if an artist infused small drops of red, yellow, green, orange & brown to the basic metallic palette.
NEUE METALLISCHE PALETTE
Kupfer, Silber und Gold sind die grundlegenden metallischen Nuancen und ein großer Trend bisher gewesen. Ambiente 2017 überrascht mit Besteck und Küchenutensilien in einer vielfachen Metall-Palette. Dieser Trend gibt mir ein Gefühl, als ob ein Künstler kleine Tropfen von rot, gelb, grün, orange & braun auf die grundlegende metallische Palette eingeflösst hat.
FOOD AS DECOR
The graphic designer in me got all giggly inside as I path through the stand of Nicolas Vahe. The typographic packaging for tea, cooking oil sauces and spices is a decor element on its own ignites us to spice up the kitchen. I find this also a great contribution to sustainability – aesthetic properties of the packaging make me want to refill and reuse it. The elegant black iron shelfs which exhibit the products are a great kitchen deco element as well.
LEBENSMITTEL ALS DECOR
Der Grafikdesigner in mir hat innerlich gelächelt, als ich durch den Stand von Nicolas Vahe ging. Die typografische Verpackung für Tee, Speiseöl, Saucen und Gewürzen wurde als Dekor-Element dargestellt . Ich finde solche schöne Dekor-Elemente unterstützen auch die Nachhaltigkeit – denn so ästhetische Eigenschaften der Verpackung inspirieren mich diese nachzufüllen und wiederzuverwenden. Und die eleganten schwarzen Eisenregale, in welchen die Produkte ausstellt wurden, sind auch als Kücheninterior äußerst inspirierend.
ORGANICALLY SHAPED CERAMICS
The uneven, organically shaped element of ceramics gives them a hand made feeling, making each piece feel as one of the kind. Full of haptic and texture these ceramic pieces invite us to hold them in the hand, embracing their texture and form.
ORGANISCH GEFORMTE KERAMIK
Das unebene, organisch geformte Element von Keramik ergibt ein handgemachtes Gefühl, dass jedes Stück sich einzigartig anfühlt. Voll von Haptik und Textur laden diese keramischen Stücke uns ein, sie in die Hand zu halten und deren Textur und Form mit allen Sinnen zu erleben.
All these trends are sustainably inspiring. They inspire us for warmth of a home, subtle but creative decorating, sensual enjoyment of texture, form and life as itself. It inspires us for authenticity and sustainability and turns us away from our obsession for perfection. And so it is – design is the analogy of the way of living the daily life.
Alle diese Trends sind nachhaltig inspirierend. Sie begeistern uns, eine warme Atmosphäre zuhause zu kreieren, subtil aber kreativ zu dekorieren, sinnliches Vergnügen von Textur, Form und Leben zu geniessen. Es inspiriert uns für Authentizität und Nachhaltigkeit und lenkt uns von unserer Obsession zur Perfektion ab. Und so ist es – Design ist eine Analogie der Lebensweise des Alltags.
